Commerce Comets - The Comets look to lead the way in the West. With a combination of pitching and hitting, the Comets could go far.

  • Pitching: Great Rotation, led by the Big Train, Walter Johnson.
  • Hitting: Good power in Sheffield, Agee, Doerr, Berra, and Money.
  • Defense: Error prone, although they can get to a lot of balls.
  • Weaknesses: The Comets filled one void by acquiring Don Mossi for their closer.
  • However, their hitting can be inconsistent and their defense leaves something to be desired.
  • Strengths: The rotation of Johnson, Joe Boehling, Dummy Taylor, Juan Bereguer and Red Ames can strike fear into any oppositions batting order.
  • Intangibles: The fans. This group is so vocal the can affect the outcome of the game. An definite bonus at home.
  • Prediction: 102 wins and first in the AL West. If Johnson can be the dominating pitcher he’s capable of and the batters can hit for average as well as the home run, this team could for far. Also, this team will lead the league in man games lost to injury.

Lynchburg Knights - The Knights head into the first season with an excellent cast of players.

  • Pitching: The Knights have a decent staff, and a very good closer.
  • Hitting: Good power from Ken Griffey Jr., Roy Campenella, Robin Yount and Chilli Davis. Joe Morgan and Kenny Lofton bring speed. And the Knight have an excellent eye at the plate.
  • Defense: The Knights field one of the best defenses in the league.
  • Weaknesses: The pitching staff can’t hold a lead.
  • Strengths: The sheer power of Junior and Campy.
  • Intangibles: Morgan’s eye and speed lead to a high percentage of runners in scoring position for the power hitters of the lineup.
  • Prediction: 97 wins and 2nd in the division. If the staff can put together some tremendous years, while the power and speed of the team is utilized to it’s full potential, this team could move into first.

Los Angeles Thunder - This team comes in with a good base already established.

  • Pitching: Jack Pfiester is a great ace, after that well.....
  • Hitting: Bob Avila, and the rest pitch in anyway they can.
  • Defense: The Thunder have a very good defense.
  • Weakness: Run creation and pitching past Pfiester hurt the club in the win column.
  • Strengths: Pfiester is a horse. He can go deep in games and win it by him self.
  • Intangibles: Pfiester. He carries the team
  • Prediction: 83 wins for 3rd in the West.

New York Highlanders - The original name of the Yankees when the AL first formed.

  • Pitching: Clemens. Man he’s everywhere.
  • Hitting: The Splendid Splinter leads a bashing crew.
  • Defense: While the Highlanders possess very good gloves, they don’t cover a lot of territory on the field.
  • Weaknesses: Even with the best eye in the game in Ted, they still are a swing happy group. Beyond Clemens the pitching is suspect  With some run creation and capital
  • Strengths: Williams, and Clemens. Power from offense and defense.
  • Intangibles: Again Clemens & Williams bring the grit to the team.
  • Prediction: 80 wins good for 4th. If they can hit a bunch of bombs they could take 3rd for themselves.

Texas Tornados - Texas representative in the AL is a good one.

  • Pitching: Cy Young, say no more. A decent closer.
  • Hitting: Good power is found from Petrocelli, Joe Carter, Andre Dawson, and company.
  • Defense: Texas fields a real sound defensive squad.
  • Weaknesses: Low batting average, high number of strikeouts, and depth.
  • Strengths: Cy Young and the power. Intangibles: Cy Young. This guy could probably pitch both ends of a double header, even if the went into extra innings. of play.
