Toronto Tornadoes -
This team, on paper, is THE most dominant team in either league. No one can touch the
talent they can put out on the field on a daily basis.
- Pitching: Maddux, Clemons, Guidry, & Johnson form an incredible rotation.
The power pitching of the last three basically shores up the strikeout title for the
Tornadoes.
- Hitting: Cover Ripping power is the only way to describe this group. This club
could have 4 players who smash over 40 homeruns this year. No ball park is too deep for
this club.
- Defense: Although they wont make the spectacular plays, the Tornadoes
field a very solid defense.
- Weakness: Individuality. There are a lot of players on this ball club who are
only out for one thing, themselves. They are fast, and Toronto lacks a real leadoff
hitter.
- Strengths: Starting rotation, power beyond belief. These can make a guy look
past those trivial weaknesses.
- Intangibles: Clemons competitiveness, and Maddux composure will help settle this
team and could help it gel into a winner.
- Prediction: 117 wins (a record) and first in the East. 120 wins is possible for
this team however, they must have 4 - 40 HR men, a high team BA, and Maddux and Clemons
must battle.
Kansas City Cavaliers - This will be
their first actual season in operation since coming from the defunct WIBL. This team
brought hitting, but added a stronger staff since the move.
- Pitching: A decent staff, led by Kevin Brown whom they picked up in the
supplement draft. A strong closer.
- Hitting: A very good combination of power and speed. Possibly the most patient
team at the plate.
- Defense: Very sound. Possibly the leagues best defensive team.
- Weakness: Rotation gets shallow after Brown and Russo.
- Strengths: The composed hitters will lead the way.
- Intangibles: Joltin Joe DiMaggio. Robin Yount. Paul Molitor. These 3 play
the game the way it was meant to be played. Their leadership will help this team out for
years to come.
- Prediction: 106 wins, second in the East. They will get a wild card berth into
the playoffs, but thats it. They need career years from their staff, a quick start
and never give up attitude to hope to win the division.
Green Monsters - The strongest
expansion team in the AL. They will be an success in the future if they continue to follow
the path they set out.
- Pitching: A Great closer, and a very good bullpen. The rotation is adequate,
especially considering that they are only an expansion team
- Hitting: Yastrezemski is the offense. Some one just needs to get into scoring
position and hell knock them in.
- Defense: The G.Mon.s field a Good defense when it comes their turn.
- Weaknesses: Holes riddle this lineup and lack of protection in the batting order
for Yaz, prevent it from moving any higher then third.
- Strengths: A great closer, & excellent number four man in Yaz.
- Intangibles: The speed of Raines may enable Yaz to see a few more fastballs then
he normally would.
- Prediction: 89 wins and third in the East. Good hitting and strong baserunning
will lead to success. The rotation must have a great year in order to get close to 100
wins.
Montreal Orioles - This club came over
from the Beta league after the WLIB folded. They brought some incredible hitters,
especially Bucketfoot himself (Al Simmons).
- Pitching: Where? There unfortunately doesnt seem to be a pitcher on the
staff who is consistent enough to have a big impact everyday.
- Hitting: Very Good. Simmons, Jim Rice, and Elston Howard lead the way
- Defense: They set the average for the AL.
- Weaknesses: The staff is very weak. They have no one to carry the load. There
isnt any relief, to make up for the lack of talent in the rotation.
- Strengths: Bucketfoot, Rice and Howard are the Orioles strength. Intangibles:
Simmons loves the game, hes youthful exuberance could be catching.
- Prediction: 75 wins and 4th in the East. If Rice, Howard, and Simmons can play
great. If the staff can all have career years at the same time, this team could go as high
as third.
DC Men Of Steel - Like the teams name
sake, the Men of Steel also have a weakness. Theirs are just a little easier to
find.
- Pitching: The rotation is solid for the first 3, but falls off after that. Only
Lemon stands out.
- Hitting: Edgar Martinez will lead the way. This is a definite long ball club.
- Defense: A good middle infield. The outfield is decent.
- Weaknesses: There is a blatant hole at shortstop. The club is free swinging, and
the staff has a control problem.
- Strengths: The long ball threat can keep them in any game. Intangibles: Jack
Coombs could be the MOSs best weapon. He is a workhorse, and can take the load off
the relievers.
- Prediction: 72 wins. 5th in the East. The MOS MUST club a ton of homeruns in
order to be successful.
